So you’ve probably been gaming on your PlayStation 3 when all of a sudden you see that you have the yellow light of death. Most people tend to go in a panic thinking that their system is permanently gone forever because of it. In reality, there can be many reasons why the yellow light of death is flashing from your system. The best thing to do is to stop, turn it off, and read up on some of the reasons why the yellow light of death may be showing. Of course, there are some reasons below that you can use to determine what may be happening.

Give The System A Rest

The PlayStation 3 is a great game system for the fact that it can be played for many hours without any problems. What most people fail to see is that it still is a game system and it still is susceptible to problems. Whenever you see the yellow light of death flashing, it’s best to turn the system off for at least an hour. If it still flashes after you’ve left it off for an hour, then it’s best to keep it off for twenty-four hours.

Clean The System

There are kits that you can buy online that will help you in removing the dust from your system. You can also take a dry cloth and wipe the system down. Dust can cause some of the parts from within the game system to malfunction as they may be sensitive. Not many people really think about how a dirty game system can lead to the yellow flashing lights. Whatever you do, make sure that water does not touch any of the parts from within or you may end up permanently damaging the PS3.

Lower The Resolution

High definition is all the rage now with most gamers because of how clear it makes the picture. High-definition can lead to the system overheating which in turn can trigger the yellow light of death to flash. If you lower the resolution, you’ll lower the heat being used and that in turn can help fix your system. If lowering the resolution doesn’t work, then you may want to consider turning off the high-definition setting altogether. It’s very rare that this happens, but most people aren’t told about this option either. A lot of people have ended up spending money just to discover the fact that this was the case to their problem.

Check For Proper Ventilation

If there are doors within your unit, you may want to keep them open so that air can flow out of the system. If the sides of your system is hot while it’s running then it’s time to consider installing another cooling fan within the game system also. The cooling fan has caught some criticism among a lot of gamers because of the fact that it’s too small for the entire system to stay cool while playing for hours.
