The PlayStation 3 requires a single cable called HDMI to transmit video and audio to a high-definition television. This single cable can be very convenient to use but at the same time can result in many problems. When you are faced with HDMI PS3 problems, then you need to restart your PS3 and look for any loose cables. You can even try unplugging all the cables and plugging them back in. Most PS3 HDMI troubles can be fixed at home easily.

The Most Common HDMI PS3 Problems and their Solutions are:

1). HDMI cable is bent and doesn’t plug in properly.

The PS3 socket does not have any locking device to fix in the HDMI cable which is heavy so it can bend out easily from the socket. This can result in interference with the video signal as well as physical damage. The solution is to get a right angle HDMI adapter that will fit into the PS3 and present a vertical socket for the HDMI cable to plug into. This totally eliminates any strain on the HDMI cable.

2). HDMI Doesn’t Transmit Audio and Video

Go to the PS3’s settings and ensure that HDMI is selected and is set to automatic so that signals are sent through the HDMI cable.

3). Video Freezes or Blacks Out

Switch off both the HDTV and PS3. Turn on the HDTV and set the input from the PS3 HDMI cable. Press the power button of the PS3 for 5 to 6 seconds and release it after the second beep. This allows the PS3 to be configured to HDTV’s resolution.

4). Video output lost after a few seconds

Whether you do not get a video signal or lose it after a few seconds, in most cases it is as a result of cheap HDMI cables that are not allowing a connection to be setup between the PS3 and TV. You need to buy a good quality HDMI cable from a reputable brand name.

5). Video output is received from the composite or component cables but not from the HDMI output

You need to first make sure that your PS3’s firmware and TV’s firmware are updated. If this doesn’t work out then you can buy a new, high quality HDMI cable. If the problem still persists, then the problem might be the inability of your PS3 and TV to secure HDMI handshake. You can buy an HDMI switch which acts as a hub for HDMI connections OR you can buy a PS3 Component AV Cable. You need to ensure that your TV accepts HD over the component connection.
