I need help with my PS3- graphics!?

I bought a used 80gb, 4 usb, backwards compatible ps3. Blue Ray works awesome all updates done, PS2 games-no problem. But when I start playing PS3 games strange things happen, for example when I play Metal Gear particular objects shake or are slightly out of place. It is always the same objects doing the same things.Sometimes the colors are slightly out of whack. After about an hour and a half it freezes, but starts right back up.Yet when I play games like Resistance 2 that use less memory, it plays ALMOST flawlessly. Also, when I download a demo, it downloads fine, but wil not install.I did all the reformatting many times, changed the hard drive, reinstalled the games, tore it apart and cleaned it andtalked to sony. The wont take it because I bought it used, and don’t have a complete ID# sticker on it. It is definetely not the games, I tried many, or an overheating issue because it happens at start up. I cannot find anyone online with similiar problems. Any Ideas?

  1. It sounds like its running too hot. I recently just had the same problem. My graphics were messing up on my newer more graphical games, and crap games like resistance work flawless. To fix it I took my cover off mine, bought an air can and blew all the dust out of it. My powersupply vents were completely plugged with dust, as i smoke weed around my machine. 🙁 That was making my ps3 run extremely hot and causing the graphics to screw up. First, turn your ps3 all over and locate all the air vents. Any dust plugging any or all of them? If there is some good chance theres some inside.

So if its (your ps3) backwards compatible then that means its a release model and your warranty is void anyway, after all this time. Take a size 10 torque screwdriver, a fine tipped star, and star. take the rubber stopper out of the bottom, which covers the security screw. Might have a sticker saying warranty void if removed. If theres no sticker, somenones already been in there prodding around :S. Ok use the torque screwdriver on the security screw, slide the ps3 see through cover off, and remove all visible screws. Youve got the old model so after you get the screws off, be VERY careful removing the next cover because you have a ribbon cable attached to all those card reader ports on the front. Unhook it, and take the cover off. Now your there. If you dont see any dust covering everything, then i dont know whats causing it to over heat. But i bet its littered with dust. Especially since its 2nd hand. Good luck.
