Is XBOX holding PS3 back?

Ive been thinking about this, considering that PS3 will some of the most ground breaking games like Uncharted, MGS4 and Killzone 2 while Xbox keeps remaking Halo keeping it steadily mediocre but people still buy more Xboxs why would developers be bothered with making games that push the envelope when they can take a shallow game like Halo and bump up the graphics a bit and sell millions.

This also works with cross platform games, if CoD 4 was on PLaystation only then I bet Infinity ward would have made the graphcs so much better than keeping them at Xbox level.

Maybe when Xbox dies the games industry can finally get to the point where all games are as good looking as Uncharted or innoative as MGS4.’

  1. I have to agree, with crossplatform it’s like that. Games are limited to dual-layer DVDs instead of Blu-ray and architectural differences must be taken in account too. Don’t forget about PC too. Usually crossplatforms come to PCs too. Only very expensive high-end PC will be able to run GTA IV at full. So PCs are kind of a brakes too.

  2. I agree.

Games that are multi-platform (except for DMc 4, COD 4, and Assassin’s Creed) look watered down.

PS3 exclusives look much better than 360 games. Uncharted is insane. Heavenly Sword and Ratchet and Clank are beautiful.

I bought Lost Planet and Viking : Battle for Asgard and when I started playing them I was like: “well you can tell this was made for 360 too!”

Gears of War is the only game I’ve seen on 360 that looks really good.

This year PS3 will probably catch up to and possibly pass 360 in worldwide sales this year so PS3 will start to be the lead on multi platform games.

  3. look im a full on supporter of sony and the ps3 but i really dont agree with what you’re saying. the only reason why games keep on getting better is because of the serious competition in the market. the more competition there is the more companies strive to out do the other therefore yielding better games with better quality and more innovative and unique gameplay. haven’t you ever seen that 1 commercial where the commentator guy says “for without my adversary i am nothing” or something like that. basically what im saying is competition fuels progress. and motivates everyone to strive for the more.

one more thing. im not a fan of halo but the people who do like it must have a reason besides nice graphics. and also the day that xbox dies to me is the day that sony stops trying to push the envelope in terms of gaming. cuz when their main competition is gone they can just take it easy and just add minor additions to the already great playstation and not try to “blow everyone else out of the water” and just save those other great ideas for the next gen console instead of implementing it already to the current one so they dont have to think that hard for the next one.

    hope this helped you out!:D

  4. adrianclay81882003’s answer deserves best answer. I agree with him 100%. Ps3’s capability has barely been taped. However this is not a 3 years race. This is a 10 year race. Ans the ps3 has the technology to go way into the future. And the wii will get left behind and 360 will get stepped on!! What they are doing is making games on 360 first then transferring them to ps3. And that grinds on my nerves because it down grades it for SONY. If they were to put in on ps3 first they would not be able to put it on 360.

  5. Xbox honestly. really sucks. if it wasn’t for halo, xbox wouldn’t be what it is today. and really wasn’t halo supposed to be a trilogy? its over for that old washed-up has been series. and if microsoft makes another one it just shows how desperate they are to be on the top and stay (even though that wouldn’t happen) sony will win as usual with the ps series

  6. I think its more because companies like Bungie are already aprt of microsoft. just like God of War (Ready At Dawn Studios) is part of Sony. Its just the way it happens in the end. But at the end of the day:

Money TALKS thats all thats really important.

  7. yea ur 100% right there just making games for 360 and porting them to ps3 but developers said that in the future they will start making games for ps3 and porting them to 360

  8. This is a known issue, but it will change quickly. While the 360 has more fielded systems. Sales for the PS3 have surpassed the 360 the gap in total sales is narrowing by ~50K units per week (yes, week).

Look for PS3 sales spikes with Home, LBP, MGS4 and Afrika (all due this year).

Once the market saturation for the PS3 gains momentum and the hype around these exclusives gets major press you will see more and more developers trying to flaunt their expertise by releasing something exclusive for the PS3 to show off their talents.

So, yes the 360 is definately holding back progress. It won’t for long though.

  9. I have to agree with you because the majority of 3rd party multiplatform games are just Xbox 360 ports, and most 3rd party multiplatform games don’t showcase what the PS3 is truly capable of and are holding the PS3 back.

In order for a developer to pull the most out of the PS3, a game has to be developed exclusively for the PS3, or the PS3 needs to be the lead platform for multiplatform games. And when you compare PS3 exclusives like Uncharted to Gears of War, the PS3’s graphics top the Xbox 360’s game every single time. And the funny thing is that the Xbox 360 is literally at it’s limit, developers have only scratched the surface with the PS3 and what’s it’s capable of doing in video games.

I think that when Hideo Kojima said that he was going to make MGS4 a PS3 exclusive, to me, that was like a spit in the face to the Xbox 360 because MGS4 couldn’t be made on the Xbox 360 without downscaling the game to run on a DVD disc. And then there’s rumors about Crysis coming to the PS3 and not the Xbox 360 because the Xbox 360 wouldn’t be able to handle the game.

Every time a multiplatform game comes out and when the game turns out to run better on the Xbox 360, it just makes me so mad because I know that the PS3 is capable of so much more and the game only would runs better on the 360 because it was developed on the 360 and then ported to the PS3.

The Xbox 360’s games are still on the DVD level and they can’t even be compared to the PS3’s exclusives. But for right now, PS3 exclusives will continue to push the envelope as they always have. However, until 3rd party developers start making the PS3 the lead platform for development, the PS3 will continue to be held back by the 360. But, Sony has the biggest video game developing studios and we’ll continue to get PS3 exclusives that showcase the PS3’s true power.

  10. Haha, but no, Halo IS GOOD but there are other killer aps, Gears of War, Project Gotham racing and so on. XBOX graphics ARE BETTER. The GPU on XBOX (the Xenos) is BETTER than the GPU on PS3 (the RSX). Xbox are clever, as they are hacking away the PS2’s good ole titles (Such as devil may cry 4) and PS3 are losing more (Unreal Tournament 3 and Virtual Fighter). Metal Gear Solid4 IS GOOD, but with crappy sales, the PS3 and games are going no where. Sony responded with Gran Turismo 5, Mircosoft havent unleased the next PGR. If this continues, Sony will lose the good PS and PS2 titles, as Mircosoft unlease Halo Wars, Gears Of War 2, and Just Cause 2.

On a side note, PS3 is holding XBOX back, cause whilst ps3 is next gen, its community and advances TRASH the PS3
