Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video review of Battle Princess of Arcadias for PlayStation3, developed by Apollosoft and published by NIS America.

Battle Princess of Arcadias is the Golurk of gaming in 2014: mashing up two genres that, up until now, hadn’t really gone together. There have been tactical RPGs, and RPG beat-’em-ups, but rarely has there been a tactical beat-’em-up: a game where you’re engaged in active combat in one plane while, in the background, a skirmish rages on and you’ve gotta command an army.

This video review features video gameplay footage of Battle Princess of Arcadias for PS3 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room’s TJ.

CGR Undertow - BATTLE PRINCESS OF ARCADIAS review for PlayStation 3

  1. I don't know if I'd say it's never been done before (arpgs have occasionally thrown in unit or ally summoning or other vague tactical features), but NIS has certainly taken the idea and made it their own in a really fun way.

  2. Other than the horrible sound effects, the game seems very cool. I might give this one a try. I love Yggdra's Union! Never heard of Code of Princess, though. I haven't owned a Nintendo handheld, since the GBA.

  3. Look something that should of been on a handheld system. $7 or more is not worth it on my wallet if you can beat the story mode in 6 hours.

  4. This totally flew under my radar (with Sony's sometimes abysmal marketing, no surprise there), but thanks to your review TJ, I'm very intrigued now. It definitely looks like a Nippon Ichi + Vanillaware combo and that's just… awesome. I'll definitely be checking this out.

Great review by the way. Thanks for giving these obscure games attention TJ. You're doing your subscribers a great service.

  5. Sorry but this looks like a flash game. Just get Muramasa or Dragon's Crown and call it a day

  6. NO! Do NOT sever your corpus callosum! A friend did that and now there is two of them in that skull. And one of them's a jerk.

  7. Ok, the lack of English dub just killed any chance of me buying this. I can't stand games that are only in Japanese. (I know there's subtitles, but still…)

  8. after i saw the screenshots i thought the game looked fun, but the rubbery looking animations were a turn off for me

  9. Hey I love the games you review….. But most of them I can never hear what your saying! Lol… If you could lower the game sounds and raise the volume of your voice, your reviews would be excellent! Thanks for all the great work.
