Xbox 360 Elite – is it worth buying?

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking of buying an Xbox 360, and was waiting for the new Elite version to come out before buying it. Now though, I hear that it does not have the quieter hardware that is in place on the standard version.

I realise it does come with a HDMI socket and bigger hard drive, but I’m thinking that since it does not have the quieter hardware, that a new version of that will just be around the corner.

Obviously if I keep thinking like this, I will never get one. What should I do?

  1. For the cost of the Elite you might as well get a PS3, it is a better system and the Online Play is free and just as good as live.

  2. For what you get, its worth the price Vs. the other SKUs. Personally its up to you, whats it worth to you. I have one and its great worth the price for me especially the hard drive.

  3. It really depends. For the extra $80, you egt HDMI output, 120 gb HD, a HDMI cable, and a cool black color. On the surface all those things seem to be worth it, but don’t really hold up on closer inspection.

The 20 gb HD on my premium package is plenty of space. I download whatever demos I like and simply erase them when I haven’t played them for a while. All 120gb would do for me is force me to pump even more of my hard-earned dough into marketplace. If you want to play your mp3s and videos, those files don’t even need to be stored on your 360 since it allows streaming straight from your home computer.

The HDMI ouput is great and a decent value, especially when you consider HDMI cables alone run around $80. But there is no noticable difference when you run anything smaller than a 50″ HD TV set. My components suit me fine on my 42″.

So I guess it really comes down to do you really like the color black? I think the black looks loads better, but enough for me to take a loss on my white one and then pay an extra $80? No thanks.

And unlike what some people above have posted, no it does not have a quieter drive and it does not run cooler and it definitely does NOT come with HD DVD built-in. If they had added that as well as wireless out-the-box, my answer to your question would have been a resounding YES.

Overall, if you don’t have an XBOX 360, get the premium. If you already have it, be happy. It is AT THE MOMENT a better system than the PS3 with a much more robust library of games and superior online play. The PS3 online may be free, but it is not well-supported and experiences numerous glitches. I used to be a hardcore Sony fanboy, but they really did this whole PS3 thing very very wrong.

  4. hmm. 120 gbs.20 gb for xbox 360. 360 elite is designed for the hardcore gamers out there that really need 120gb. 20 gb is enough man!

  5. no dude its way quieter than the white one and u definitely want the bigger harddrive especially if u dnld arcade games and put music on it. it does come with the hdmi cable and also this one has the high def player cant forget about that. overall im very happy with turning mine in and getting the black elite.

ps. dont get the ps3 the ps4 is due to release in 2010 sony announced it a month ago.

  6. Well, if you already own a Xbox 360 then don’t spend the extra money. But yeah, I would get an elite if i didn’t own the first. The memory is amazing and the graphics are supposed to be awesome. So go for the elite.

  7. check out this site, they give you an xbox 360 FOR FREE!! i got mine last week and i’m luuuuvin’ it!

But if you have a HD-TV then spending 75$ for a new cable isn’t worth it. For 5$ more u might as well get a Elite system.

Whichever one u buy, I’m sure u won’t regret it.

  9. Its all upto you. If you really do want an Xbox 360 go get it. Theres nothing special in the elite version just hdmi and the bigger hard drive. And it still makes the same noise as the previous one. So if u really do want an xbox go get one, i am sure you wont regret it.

    cheers,
