Why won’t my PS3 work on my HDTV, and how can I fix it?

I bought a PS3 off of Craiglist about a week ago. The kid I bought it from had a standard TV, and I saw that it worked on that TV. I have an HDTV. I couldn’t get it to work (I would just get a blank screen with “No Signal” on it), so I looked online to find the problem.

It seemed like I needed a special cable to hook it up to an HDTV, so I ordered said cable. Today, I tried to hook it up. I’m still getting the “No Signal” thing.

For the record, I also have an Xbox 360 that has an HDTV cable. When I hook it up to the Component thing like I’m trying to do with the PS3, it works fine.

Any suggestions?

  1. You need to do a Video Reset so the PS3 can reset itself to the new (different) set of cables you are using.

To do a Video Reset, put the PS3 in stand by mode (red light on front of the PS3). With the PS3 off, push and hold down the power button until you hear 2 beeps (about 5 seconds). The PS3 will now come on, and reset to the video cables you are using. It will also set up your PS3 with the best possible picture that your TV can produce.

If you ever change your cables to a different type of cable again, just do another Video Reset.

  2. You probably need to hook it up to a standard television. When it comes on you need to go under setting to display settings and then to video output settings and change the setting from being on AV Multi. Then hook it up to your hd tv and it will be find. Or you hook it up to your hd tv using the AV Multi plugs and change the setting.
