What is the ideal hard drive for a PS3? This includes: manufacturer, RPMs and memory capacity.?

I know it’ll be mostly opinions, but I’m still interested in hearing them; as well past experiences you may have had with upgrading the hard drive in a PS3.

  1. A 5,400 RPM drive is what Sony reccomends because of heat, but you can use a faster one if you want. As for brand, it doesn’t matter. I use Western Digital because I’m yet to have one of their drives fail on me. Storage size is your choice. Make sure the HDD has an 8 meg cache.

  2. A faster hard drive than a 5,400 RPM one won’t make a huge difference in the PS3’s loading times. Brand’s up to you but Western Digital is usually a good choice for reliability. Capacity again is up to you, but you probably won’t need anything bigger than 500GB.
