would a generic external hard drive work as an external memory source for the xbox 360?

i have a 4gb xbox and i need more memory but the microsoft make external hard drives are to expensive, so i was wondering that if i hooked a generic one up via usb cord. thanks

  1. Yes, it would. BUT when you plug it into the xbox you will need to format it, so make sure nothing important is on there. Also 250 GB HDD’s are on ebay. Happy gaming!

  2. You can use an external USB hard drive for the Xbox 360 but you can only use 16GB of it for the console to use.
